The ethos of Mothers' Union is "Christian care for families" and it is particularly concerned with promoting marriage as a lifelong partnership. Couples may become so focused on the detail of their fairytale wedding day that they may miss the significance of the marriage vows (promises) made to each other during the wedding service. Mothers' Union wishes couples to be aware that the Wedding is just one day but Marriage is a lifetime. Marriage is about loving for life.

WEDDING FAYRES

We are represented at the Welsh Wedding Fayre which is held at the Brangwyn Hall Swansea twice a year. The Marriage Guide and other appropriate leaflets are distributed along with favours. Febraury 16th this year we set up a Prayer Tree.

One hundred couples wrote their wedding dates on hearts which were placed on the tree. Members will pray for them as they prepare for their weddings.

Mothers' Union Relief Fund

Members fund-raise for the Mothers’ Union Relief Fund at Christmas.  When having their Branch Christmas Lunch and family celebrations, members and their families are asked to think of those suffering from the effects of famine or disaster and donate at least 20p each. The Relief Fund provides emergency financial help for communities affected by natural disaster or conflict. The grassroots nature of Mothers' Union makes it well placed within communities to quickly obtain food, materials and medicines for immediate distribution.

Make a Mother's Day

Members raise funds to support overseas work through purchasing ethical gifts instead of chocolates and flowers for Mother's Day. Sometimes members may club together to purchase one larger gift.

Wheel's Appeal

The Wheels Appeal is a summer fundraiser. Members are invited to raise vital funds to support travel of Mothers' Union workers around the world. They bake for cake stalls, hold coffee mornings and supper evenings etc to raise the money.

Blankets for Uganda

Some members knit squares, which are sent out to Wakisa Ministries, which supports traumatised pregnant young women who are forced to leave their family home.   Sewing blankets out knitted squares assists the bonding process with their babies.

Support for families in Safe houses

Swansea and Brecon MU supports families in our four Safe Houses in various ways. Swansea and Brecon Mothers’ Union supports families in our four Safe Houses. We donate groceries three times a year at Easter, early Autumn and Christmas. Individual members and Branches donate toiletries, underwear, and school uniforms.

Caravan Holidays for families

The AFIA (Away from it all) project provides Caravan Holidays for families who are in need of a holiday.

Because of personal circumstances many families find it impossible to have a family holiday. The holidays may be for parents and children, lone parents, carer and sometimes includes sick or disabled children.

The holidays are usually accommodated at the caravan owned by Llandaff Mothers^ Union. Families are very appreciative of these holidays as it allows them to spend quality time together away for home
